What's in store for 2009?

As I begin to regroup after the holidays I am looking to the new year and thought it would be good to share the goals and plans for 2009.

First I will recap 2008. In the early part of 2008 I began to connect with other artists and crafters in the area. We came together as a group of maybe 10 or so and put on the first Local Artisan Art Festival at Lehman’s in Kidron, Ohio.

Around this time I connected with the WAGE Art Group from Wayne County Center of the Arts in Wooster. I then headed just slightly east and connected with Arts In Stark (http://www.artsinstark.org/) in Canton around the same time. I joined up with Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild, joined their board of directors and brought my art to the Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild on 4th Street in the arts district of Canton. I also rented an art studio space above Second April Art Gallerie and began participated in Canton’s First Fridays ( http://www.cantonfirstfriday.com/

Now I am several months down the line and those connections have begun to bear fruit. From the connection with Lehman’s, the Local Artisan Festival and Kidron Art Group I began to partner with Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild and Lehman’s to help organize arts and crafts demos in the Buggy Barn at Lehman’s. We had an artist or crafter in the store most Saturdays thorough out the fall and winter. I will begin again to schedule local artists and crafters for demos at Lehman’s in the spring. I have a horse mural work in progress in the Buggy Barn that I work on during my painting demo. Keep an eye on their web site http://www.lehmans.com/ and the events calendar to be informed of future art and craft events.

As for 2009, I will be exhibiting with the W.A.G.E. Group on Jan. 15th thru Feb. 15th. I have two pieces that will be in that art show. The theme will be Personal Landscapes.

In Feb.I will be entering a piece in the Domestic Violence Benefit Art Show with Arts In Stark. and all my Canton friends.

I will have my Open Studio at 318 Cleveland Ave. #222 Canton, Ohio during all the First Friday Events in 2009. Please stop by my studio during First Friday. I make a point out of having new work each month.

I made the transition from acrylics to oils this past year and plan to continue pursuing this medium. I have not given up my watercolors as of yet but for now my first love is oils so my attention is in that direct for now. I offer commissions for pets, horses and people and plan on continuing that service. I have gotten so much satisfaction out of seeing people’s reactions and gratitude when I am honored and entrusted to do a very personal gift or keepsake of this type.

On a personal level I am painting separate portraits of my children and grandparents. I will likely do a memorial shadow box for each of my grandparents which incorporates personal items (jewelry, clothing, written notes) and a portrait in a deep shadow box. I will show this work along with other new work on my blog at http://www.amulti-coloredlifeblogspot.com/

To see more of my equine and animal artwork go to http://www.suesteiner.com/ I specialize in painting faces, expressions, emotions in rich, vivid color!
